Health Minister Vishwajitbab Rane returned to Margao not just to plant and water saplings, while also shower praise on PWD Minister Digambarbab Kamat. The junior Rane minced no words in publicly declaring that Kamat’s tenure as Chief Minister was a “golden period” and a “golden era” for Goa. According to Rane, public infrastructure received a major boost during Kamat’s stint at the helm, largely because funding was never an issue under the former Chief Minister. It is worth noting that Digambar Kamat served as the Congress Chief Minister between 2007 and 2012, during which Vishwajit Rane worked in his Cabinet as Health Minister. Any questions?

Goa Superintendent of Police?
SP Shekar Prabhudesai has assumed charge as the new South Goa Superintendent of Police following the retirement of SP Santosh Desai. However, Prabhudesai’s appointment has done little to end the speculation within the Goa Police over who will eventually head the district on a full-time basis. For now, Prabhudesai has only been entrusted with the additional charge of South Goa SP until further orders. As a result, the race among officers from both the Goa Police Service and the IPS cadre for the coveted post remains very much alive. In the corridors and barracks of the district police headquarters, the question continues to dominate conversations: Kaun banega full-fledged South Goa SP?
Opposition parties echo call
for united front against BJP
Amid the continuing turmoil within the Congress, the Aam Aadmi Party has urged the Congress leadership to take the initiative in bringing opposition parties together to challenge the BJP in the 2027 elections. Sources in AAP say the appeal follows remarks by newly appointed GPCC president Girish Chodankar, who recently underscored the need for opposition unity to dislodge the BJP. Interestingly, nearly every opposition party has echoed the call for a united front against the BJP. The question, however, remains: when will these parties move beyond rhetoric and translate their calls for unity into action? Wait and watch.

PWD Minister Digambar Kamat and Goa Forward Party chief Vijai Sardesai put on a display of perfect bonhomie at the government’s tree plantation programme along NH-66 on World Environment Day. The duo arrived together at the venue and were all smiles as they engaged in an animated conversation. It later emerged that their discussion revolved around Vijai Sardesai’s presence at the induction ceremony of DK Shivakumar as chief minister in Bengaluru earlier this week. The topic of discussion centred on Karnataka Minister Satish Jarkiholi, who was also known to the PWD Minister when Kamat led the Congress campaign in Goa in 2022. Any questions?
